CBD Oil Neuroprotective for Brain Health

CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol and it is a Phyto-cannabinoid, one of the cannabinoids among more than 100 in the cannabis plant group. It can be taken internally in various ways like inhaling in vapor or smoke from an aerosol spray used on cheeks. CBD oil contains CBD as an active ingredient. The tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is filtered out from it.

Researchers believe CBD oil may help in the treatment of neurological disorders as it acts on the brain signaling systems including the endocannabinoid system. Several studies have concluded the CBD oil can treat epilepsy and multiple sclerosis. However, even though the findings are promising, but further research is required in the area.

Oral spray named Sativex has provided proven results in reducing muscle spasticity with multiple sclerosis. The spray consists of both CBD and THC. A study concluded that the combination was able to reduce spasms in 75 percent of people in the test. All these 276 subjects had muscle spasticity and were unable to benefit from medications.

Another study found CBD oil between 0.9 to 2.3 grams per pound helped in reducing seizures by about 36.5 percent.

However, it is important to note that some participants in the studies experienced adverse reactions like fatigue, fever, or convulsions.

Cannabis is also being researched in the treatment of several other neurological diseases like the quality of sleep with Parkinson’s disease.

Apart from all these, animal and test-tube studies have found promising results in preventing Alzheimer’s disease. One study claimed the CBD helped in preventing cognitive decline in mice that were genetically predisposed to the disease.
